Hosting vs. Listing

Third Party Developer Documentation >> Developer: Fulfill a Listed Only Order >> Hosting vs. Listing

Overview

There are two modes for listing geo-content on WeoGeo Library:

  • Hosting.
  • Listing only.

Both options look the same to Users. The difference lies in how orders are fulfilled. Please note that both options come with the option of listing your data on WeoGeo Market.

Hosting

When Content Providers select the Hosting mode, WeoGeo processes and fulfills orders on the behalf of the Content Provider. This includes any of the supported customization options that the Content Provider enabled (i.e. geocropping, spatial resampling, re-projection, etc.). Although Content Providers are notified of the details for each order (useful for tracking and generating follow-up sales leads), order fulfillment requires no action on the part or the Content Provider.

Listing Only

Under Listing only mode, content providers are notified (currently by email) when an order is placed. Where applicable, the email will include all of the customization options (i.e. geocropping, spatial resampling, re-projection, etc.) that the User has requested. Content Providers are asked to fulfill the order exactly as it is requested and upload it to WeoGeo's data escrow within three days of the time of order. From that point, WeoGeo takes over responsibility for notifying the User and for content delivery.

Fees for Hosting/Listing data on WeoGeo Library

Under both models, you will need to http://www.weogeo.com/signup sign up] for a Library. The difference is that under the Listing Only mode only the preview tile set will impact your storage allotment. Hosted will include the data and the preview tiles against your storage allotment.

Hosting vs. Listing

Hosting your geo-content usually provides a better experience for your Users because the orders are processed programmatically by our WeoGeo Processing Service. The turnaround for this type of order fulfillment depends on the Job Processing Queue, but it is typically within a few minutes. Of course, Content Providers can write their own scripts to fulfill orders. This is a good option for file and data types that are not yet supported by the WeoGeo Job Processing Engine.
